No, I was not having a heart attack. We were about to meet a couple of “famous” people, and the anticipation was making me crazy nervous. And suddenly all I could think was, Yuck!, nobody wants to shake a sweaty hand!
That was a few years back at a Family First fundraiser, waiting to meet, Tony Dungy, Dave Ramsey, and Michael W. Smith.
Do you have someone you would like to meet? Someone you would wait in a line for just to be in their presence? It could be an actor, athlete, singer, author, speaker, or someone who holds a high office like a king, queen, or some other political figure. These are people we spend money to be near, travel distances to see, and wait long hours for a few minutes of face time.
We clamor for pictures and autographs from people who don’t know us, love us, and won’t remember us two seconds after we’ve left their presence.
It’s silly isn’t it, because at the end of the day these “famous” people are just…. people. They may have accomplished something you and I haven’t, but they’re just human, like you and me; fragile, damaged, and held captive for a time in the same fallen world. They probably have some of the same annoying habits and traits, like leaving the toilet seat up, snoring at night, bad breath in the morning, and emitting bodily noises, and smells, at inappropriate times. They may seem bigger than life, but they’re not bigger than the Life Giver.
They may seem bigger than life, but they’re not bigger than the Life Giver.
Jeremiah 29:13 tells us, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart.”
Every day, and every second of every day, we have the opportunity, no, the privilege to be in the presence of the Life Giver, the greatest celebrity of all time, the Great I Am. This privilege doesn’t cost us any money, we don’t have to travel any distance and we don’t have to wait in a line.
We only need to be available.
When we are available to Him, He’s available to be with us… through prayer. Anytime, anywhere.
The Almighty doesn’t put a time limit on the time we spend with Him. As a matter of fact the more of our day we spend in His presence, (in prayer) the more we see His presence in our day.
The more of our day we spend in His presence the more of His presence we see in our day
The more time we spend with the Great I Am, the more we see Him working in our lives, in our circumstances.
The next time you want an autograph from someone famous, open your Bible. God’s name is on every word.
And when you want to be in the presence of someone great, open your heart and He will be there too.
He’ll take you just the way you are, anxious spirit, sweaty palms, pounding heart and all. He’ll wipe your tears and carry your hurts. He’ll offer you wisdom, and fill you with discernment.
Because this Celebrity knows you, loves you and will never forget you. He even gave His Son’s life for you.
You know what’s the best part?
You’ll never have to wait in line to be in His presence. The Famous One is actually waiting for you. Right now. Right where you are.
