Our church is reading Draw the Circle by Mark Batterson, a forty day devotional on prayer. It’s moving the hearts of our church peeps in profound ways already. If you want to know exactly what prayer is, it’s having a conversation with God, that changes lives. I know this because prayer changes my life every day of the week.
I published this post some time back but it fit right in with our forty day prayer journey so I thought I’d re-gift it to you…..
Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place to pray.
Yesterday I had my car washed and filled up with gas. Every time I do this my car just seems to drive better.
The bumps in the road don’t seem so bumpy.
Now, I don’t normally announce when I wash my car and gas it up except yesterday it made me think of an analogy.
When I fill up with God in the morning, (pray and wash my heart in His Word) before I go meet with the world I seem to “drive” better too.
The Bible tells us, before Jesus met with the anxious world He met one on one with His Heavenly Father.
People from all over were clamoring to see Jesus. To hear Him. To touch Him, vying for His attention. They wanted His advice, His healing hand, His forgiving heart. I bet He had a tight schedule everyday from the time His sandals hit the dusty road until the time His weary head hit the bed!
Jesus needed to be filled up. He needed His time alone with God in the morning before the world met Him with the demands of the day.
Having time with God before the sun streaks through my window doesn’t make the bumps in the road any smoother but it does make me a smoother Christy while going over the bumps.
How does time alone with God make a difference in your life?
