“In fact this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.” 1John 5:3 (NIV)
Simple verse. No hard words to look up. No parables, twists or turns. Just straight forward obedience.
Are you familiar with Gary Chapman’s book, The 5 Love Languages? Basically it says we all feel loved in one of 5 different ways— physical touch, quality time, receiving gifts, words of affirmation, or acts of service. My friend Janie suggested to me that God’s love language is different from these.
After some thought, I had to agree. We show God we love Him by our obedience. Everything in His Word points to this being so.
(John 14:15, 23-24; 15:12, 14,17; 1 John 2:3; 5:3; 2 John 1:6)
Jesus made it easy for us by summing up of all God’s commands in two sentences.
Love God. Love people. (Matthew 22: 37-40)
And obeying one causes you to do the other.
So have you loved God today?
Making Mondays less mundane with a word from the Word.
Looking forward, pressing on and seeking God in every bump and twist in the road.
