Twelve years ago a bump in the road changed the trajectory of my life. A career move, a different city and a brand-new (empty nest) season, all brought about a major shift in my perspective.
After the dust settled I found myself asking, with no more kids at home, what will I do?
What will I do, is a question many ask when met with major life changes such as the ones I went through. Under these circumstances we might find ourself feeling somewhat isolated, in a holding pattern, while it appears everyone else is happily living out their purpose.
Friends, this is only a perception.
Purpose and destiny are terms that baffle most of us.
A year into my new surroundings, I had a couple of friends tell me I should be a life coach. It sounded good at the time as I had done some mentoring, so I went to my know-it-all buddy, Google, to ask about online courses in life coaching. I found a Christian based one at the website for Life Purpose Coaching Centers International.
While taking a course to help others uncover their purpose, I discovered my own.
Toward the end of the course I was asked to comment on the instructor’s blog. At the time I didn’t even know what a blog was but I did as I was assigned. I was surprised to find I liked sharing my thoughts there. My friend Mary, dared me to start my own blog and with her assistance, Joying in the Journey was born.
The word joying is weird I know but, it is a word. It’s a verb meaning: the emotion of great delight caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying. And that’s exactly how I was feeling about the journey God had me on of learning how to accept His will and His purpose He had planned for this season of my life.
About a month ago, life coach Sue Sundstrom, author and founder of Sue Sundstorm Coaching, contacted me about being interviewed along with 20 other authors, speakers and coaches for her series, Fulfill Your God-Given Destiny. I was happy to participate.
Some of you may already know what your purpose is and you’re living it out. If you are, that’s great. But there are others who either are unsure or allow fear, lack of know-how, lack of clarity, distraction or disappointments keep them from living it.
If this sounds like you, please join us for this series by clicking here. It’s totally free. Don’t worry that you’ve missed a few interviews. At the end of the series you will be sent a link to replay the whole thing.
I’ve given you a smidgen of my story but you can hear more in my interview that will air on or around August 19th. Grab your favorite cup of joe or tea, sit in a comfy chair and join me. See you soon.
Looking forward, pressing on and seeking God in every bump and twist in the road.
