“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” 2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV)
I was just having a pity party over a recent problem when I read a prayer request from a woman at church. Her child is in dire need of prayer for a life threatening illness.
My problem is neither dire or life threatening.
When I bowed my head to pray for this woman the verse in 2 Corinthians 4 came to mind. This woman doesn’t know it but God used her situation to put my situation into its proper perspective.
We shouldn’t view our difficulties as an opportunity to quit or give up or give into self loathing, rather we should look at them as a place from which we can grow and build character—an occasion to grow in Christ.
Paul in this Scripture is referring to his persecution but this verse can also pertain to any struggle we are going through. Our weaknesses should make us fall even further into the arms of Jesus which is in fact the place where we draw our strength to endure and persevere.
Our struggles are indeed light and momentary when looking into the eyes of eternity. And as believers, oh what and eternity we have to look forward to. Praise God.
