“We are hard pressed on every side but not crushed; perplexed but not in despair; persecuted but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
I love this verse in Corinthians. It encourages me that I’m not alone. We all face difficult life seasons; times when we’ve had it and just want to quit. Times when we feel crushed, perplexed, abandoned.
But we don’t have to let those times defeat us or destroy us.
When I’m struggling to hang on for one more second, I have a talk with myself. This is some of what I say….
When I feel like I’m reaching the end of my rope I say, “Press on just one more week. You can do it”.
When I feel like I’ve lost sight of where I’m going, I say, “Stay the course another day. You might see it”.
When I perceive I’m losing ground and I think I’m falling back, I say, “Stand firm one more hour. You might feel it”.
When I’m discouraged from the fight and my heart is growing faint, I say, “Dig deep Christy one more minute. You can endure this”.
Then I tell myself to set smaller goals. Take it week by week, day by day, even hour by hour.
To rest my weary eyes on the source of enduring hope.
Press on. Stay determined. Stretch forward.
Don’t give up.
Never give up.
Nano-minute by nano-minute keep the faith.
Because tomorrow might be the day. The day I turn and see light at the end of my tunnel; the finish at the end of the race; the prize at the edge of my grasp.
If I quit today I’ll never realize tomorrow. I don’t want to miss it.
And I bet neither do you. If you knew you just had to hang in there for one more day….to seize the prize,… to win the race, you could do it too.
Don’t let life defeat you. Wait for it. Reach for it. Take hold of your tomorrow and relish in it.
