“And these are but the outer fringes of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him.” Job 26:14
The first time I read this verse it so moved me because I completely understood its truth. We only see the outer edges of God’s work. How faint is the whisper of His greatness. It’s beyond what our minds can possibly fathom.
In verses 7-11 of Job 26 Job describes some of the enormities of God’s creative powers.
He spreads out the northern skies over empty space;
he suspends the earth over nothing.
He wraps up the waters in his clouds,
yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.
He covers the face of the full moon,
spreading his clouds over it.
He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters
for a boundary between light and darkness.
The pillars of the heavens quake,
aghast at his rebuke.
Ever have a God moment? Where you experienced God at work—where you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt circumstances were not coincidences? Where happenings were in no way happenstance?
I had one of those moments recently where I witnessed God’s nearness and it wowed me to no end. I remember going to bed that particular night with a fearful awe that draped me in resolute peace, knowing I had seen and touched the fringes of His works. Even then it was just a mere glimpse of His magnificence—a breath of His greatness.
Job 26:14 strikes at my very core because indeed we only scratch the surface of God’s brilliance and power yet, He invites us to come commune with Him anytime, anywhere. An open invitation.
Oh my goodness friends, what a priceless gift?
