I was reading a First5 post last week that gave me cause for pause. The First5 is an app you can down load to your phone. (Read more on the First5 below.)
The scripture verse highlighted from the app. on this particular morning was John 12:3 “Then Mary took a pint of nard, an expensive perfume, and poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped it with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”
The verse tells us Mary gave up something costly, perfume. An estimated years wages worth. And she poured it all out. On feet. Jesus’ feet.
Judas (one of the disciples) thought her move as reckless. But, Jesus saw her sacrifice, priceless.
And that’s what gave me pause to ponder.
What am I willing to give up for Jesus?
What is the perfume in my life? Can you name yours?
Is it tennis, T.V., or sweets? Could it be ten more minutes of sleep? Is it time out with friends, the beach, or a trip? Could it even be worry?
How about golf, your kids, exercise, work, Facebook, or your phone?
Anything that ‘s important to us, takes up our time, is an expense. Precious. And whatever we consider precious can become our idol and easily take the place of the Most Precious.
John 15:4 reminds us, “Remain in me as I also remain in you.”
This scripture says to me:
Spend time with me as I always spend time with you.
When you stay in my Word, I stay on your mind.
Spend time with me and your actions will show I spend time in you.
So now I have to ask myself the hard question of, what’s keeping me from staying in His presence today? What’s keeping you?
Whatever it is, can we lay it down and wipe His feet?
God willing, I am.
Idols are putrid, but sacrifice, perfume.
“They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice pleasing to God.” Philippians 4:18
I want heaven to smell something good today!
*Point to ponder: Do we miss out on the best part of our day when we don’t spend the first part of it with Him?
