I have to admit even as a Christian in my early 40’s I had my doubts about the possibility.
I remember my youngest son, then a middle schooler, bouncing down the stairs with an uncontainable excitement.
“Mom I have a favorite verse!”
“Hey babe, what is it?”
He held a crumpled piece of paper in his hands that read “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:15-16 (NIV)
“This is my verse to live by,” he proclaimed. And like a good mom, I smiled, and with encouragement in my voice, told him it was an awesome verse to memorize and we could have it printed up and put over his bed so he could be reminded of it every night before he went to sleep.
But, unfortunately my thoughts, weren’t tracking with his.
On the inside I was thinking, this verse is totally unrealistic.
Honestly, how could I rejoice when my husband had just been diagnosed with cancer a few weeks earlier. And to top it off, Christmas was just few days away.
Be thankful in all circumstances.
Hardly. I wasn’t sure what this Christmas would bring us or for that matter the very next moment. I had two teenage boys and one very sick husband.
I’m not even sure I knew what that looked like. I didn’t understand how it was achievable. I wasn’t there yet.
For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
But oh, how I longed to rest in the shade of this verse but it seemed an impossibility.
One thing I did know, if this is a part of God’s will for us, then somehow, somewhere, He would provide a way for the impossible.
And He did.
But I’ll have to say it was a process. A road I definitely wouldn’t have chosen for myself, but a loving Savior chose for me. A way to rejoice always, be thankful in all circumstances, and learn how to live in continual state in prayer.
John 10:10 reminds us that Jesus says ,”… I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” (NIV)
And Jesus is the Way to all these things…He provides us the fullness of life.
In Danise Jurado’s new book, Fulfilled, Learning to Live the Life God Promised, through scriptures and personal, heart-gripping stories, she walks us step by step through the process of life change by the power of Christ and His Spirit who lives in us.
It is possible to do the impossible when we rely on His power and not our own.
Danise says, “We find a new level of fullness when we see God’s potential rather than focusing on the limiting factors in our own lives, or the lives of others around us.”…”Believing that we really are God’s children and He genuinely desires to fill our lives to overflowing completeness is only the beginning. We must be willing to face the limits we have placed on ourselves, and then, with God’s strength, run straight through them.”
God’s desire is for us all to live a life of abundance through His power living within us.
“ Now to him who is able do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to his power that is working within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen” (NIV)
