Zechariah 4:10, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”
In the early 90’s, a couple of women started writing a newsletter called The Proverbs 31 Homemaker. They probably didn’t think of reaching the world but they did think about of reaching their neighbors. These women acted on the dream God laid on their hearts. They were faithful and worked hard with what God gave them.
Step by step, year after year as they honed their gifts, lives were touched. Slowly they added to their number. As they reached out, their outreach grew.
As they reached out, their outreach grew
It’s been twenty years since those humble beginnings. Today Proverbs 31 Ministries exists to bring God’s peace, perspective and purpose to today’s busy woman. They currently reach over 1,000,000 women a week in more than 100 countries, via daily devotions, online Bible studies, speaking engagements, books, and radio broadcasts.
In Zechariah 4:10 the Jewish remnant of Israel are getting reading to rebuild the temple, a daunting task. They start with the first step, a plumb line, a measuring tape. God let them know He was pleased with their obedience to start the assignment when He said, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin…”. God teaches us here, He is pleased with us when we please Him with our obedience to make a start, even if the start seems small.
Do you have a goal, or a dream God has placed on your heart? Does your dream feel bigger than you are? I encourage you to first, pray for God’s guidance, then take a baby step of faith and act on your dream.
It helps to remember, it doesn’t take more than a measuring tape or some clip art on a newsletter to make God smile.
